Hermit Oil Skimmer
The Elastec Hermit Oil Skimmer (Specs) is designed to access tanks through roof or side manway openings with a minimum diameter of 20 in / 50 cm. Driven by an explosion-proof* air motor, the lightweight skimmer can work unattended recovering a variety of oil types. Supplied with an optional air-operated diaphragm pump, it recovers the oil with little water content. Fill out our questionnaire and tell us about your project.
Resembling a “hermit crab”, its broad, buoyant “claws” direct the flow of oil into the rotating smooth drum where it is scraped into a trough and pumped into a storage tank. The setup is best suited to fixed fluid level tanks. The tank oil skimmer is supplied with 10 ft / 3 m of air and suction hose with a grounding wire and in-line strainer.

*Note: Elastec pneumatic skimmers are fitted with air motors that conform to EC Directive 94/9EC (ATEX 100a) for zones 1 and 2 (Group II, category 2, Gas and Dust Atmospheres) and a maximum surface temperature of 275 F / 135 C.
Precautions should be taken to ensure the tank oil skimmer is not working in an explosive atmosphere. Elastec does not warrant the skimmer for hazardous conditions.
