HYDRO-FIREĀ® BOOM

The Hydro-FireĀ® Boom is an inflatable, water-cooled system designed for insitu burning (ISB) operations during oil spill response. Elastec Hydro-FireĀ® Boom holds the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDSĀ® title for the ā€œLongest Continuous Burn of Oil Spill at Sea,ā€ which occurred during the Deepwater Horizon incident in the Gulf of Mexico.

Hydro-FireĀ® Boom is a proven inflatable fire boom. It is a complete system, comprising of 500 ft / 150 m of boom on a powered reel with an integrated air blower, hoses, towing equipment, power pack, and two high-capacity water pumps. Elastec fire-resistant booms have undergone rigorous testing by organizations such asĀ OHMSETT,Ā SUPSALVĀ andĀ U.S. Coast Guard.

The Elastec Hydro-FireĀ® Boom system was proven ā€œin angerā€ in multiple controlled burns during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Many of our patented water-cooled fire-resistant oil booms operated with great success, reducing the shoreline impact. By the time the well was capped, over 400 burns were conducted, with some lasting up to 12 hours in duration. On June 18th, 2010, an estimated 50,000 to 70,000 barrels of oil were removed from the marine environment. Elastec was mentioned across the country on news casts both on local and national levels.

Controlled burning is a valuable response tool that can eliminate large volumes of oil. During the DeepWater Horizon response, 219,000 to 309,000 barrels of oil were estimated to have been removed from the marine environment in these controlled burns. Over 400 burns were conducted using several different models of fire boom. Our Hyro-Fire Boom and American Fireboom proved to be the most successful.

Elastec Fire Boom Outperforms The Competition

In the summer of 2010 we supported the controlled burn operation in the Gulf of Mexico to minimize the impact from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Several models of fire resistant oil containment boom were deployed in the early stages of the insitu burning, two of which (American Fireboom and Hydro-FireĀ® Boom) are manufactured by Elastec. These booms proved to be the most resilient and were responsible for the longest continuous burns and for immolating the largest amount of oil from the marine environment.

By the time the Deepwater Horizon well was capped, 411 controlled burns were conducted in the Gulf of Mexico, with the majority employingĀ Elastecā€™s fire booms. The duration of our patented Hydro-FireĀ® Boom and American Fireboom systems lasted four times longer than the competitionā€™s ā€“ some up to 12 hours. Elastec holds the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDSĀ® title for theĀ ā€œLongest Continuous Burn of Oil Spill at Sea.ā€

Safe Start Igniter for Insitu Burning Operations

The Elastec Safe Start Igniter is designed to provide a safe and easy way to start controlled insitu burns (ISB) for oil spill recovery operations. These igniters were used extensively in the Deepwater Horizon controlled burn operation in the Gulf of Mexico.

Each 1 gal. / 3.8 l container is preloaded with non-toxic Safe Start gelling agent to be mixed with diesel fuel. Common marine flares are used as the ignition source, melting the container and allowing the gelled burning fuel to spread.
