2M BOOMVANEâ„¢

The 2m BoomVaneâ„¢ is designed for coastal and offshore vessel operations towing medium to large oil booms with advancing containment and recovery systems. These containment boom deployment and retrieval systems are lighter than “trawl doors”. BoomVanes feature greater surface area and generates higher bollard pull at lower speeds. (Which is needed for towing oil booms.) It enables a single vessel to operate a wide swath sweep with offshore oil booms in various modes and configurations and helps offset carbon emissions. Please fill out our BoomVane Questionnaire and tell us about your project.

The 2m BoomVane is constructed as a cascade of vertical wings mounted in a rectangular frame. The wing cascade is kept at an optimal angle to the water flow by a fixed rudder mounted between folding arms. The rudder arms have horizontal plates acting as stabilizer wings, maintaining the vertical inclination of the wing cascade. A float is bolted to the end plate of the wing cascade, to which an optional crane docking assembly can be fitted.

Powered by the water flowing past as the vessel advances, the 2m BoomVane, held by a single tow line, swings out and away from the vessel with the oil boom in tow. It is completely stable and self-trimming in all sweep speeds, and insensitive to wave action.

Elastec holds multiple international patents for the original BoomVane.
