Hydro-Fire® Boom
Elastec/American Marine is a world leader in the design and manufacture of fire boom. We have been supporting the effort in the Gulf of Mexico to minimize the impact from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill - our Hydro-Fireboom systems have now been used in multiple "In-Situ" burns. This specialized boom is a patented water cooled boom, multiple systems have been operating with great success, reducing the shoreline impact.
The Joint Information Center released figures on the 25 May 2010 "On Monday, crews conducted 14 controlled burns for nearly 12 hours bringing the response total to 53 burns and 62,000 barrels of oil removed." This effort is continuing.

In-Situ" burning is a valuable response tool that can eliminate up to 600-1800 barrels (100-300 tons) of oil per hour. Hydro-Fire® Boom has undergone rigorous burn trials by ourselves and other response organizations such as OHMSETT, SUPSALV and US Coast Guard.
Hydro-Fire Boom is an effective barrier to prevent the spread of oil fires on water.
The Hydro-Fire® Boom system offers the following advantages:
• Inflated boom design may be compactly stored on reels
• Reusable and easily stored
• Reel provides assisted deployment and recovery
• Rapidly deployable
In the mid 1980's we designed the first commercial Fireboom available capable of containing burning oil at 2000° F. This was the first (practical and successful) boom that allowed "In-Situ" burning of oil spills on water. With more than a decade of experience, Elastec/American Marine is the only company in the world with fire boom that has been used successfully during actual, at sea, in-situ burns of crude oil. The burns include a test burn off the coast of Spitsbergen, Norway (1988), spillage from Exxon Valdez (1989), involvement with experimental burns off Newfoundland, Canada (1993), United Kingdom Southampton test burn (1996). Hydro-Fire Boom can be used as a floating fire proof barrier to prevent the spread of marine fires.
Over 60,000 ft / 18 km of our fire boom has been supplied worldwide. Our original designs used ceramic floats (3M American Fireboom) and were later replaced by a reusable water cooled system
