October 11, 2011
We won! We are excited and proud to announce that we have won the Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup X CHALLENGE! During a ceremony in New York, it was announced that we greatly exceeded the recovery requirements of 2,500 gpm with 70% efficiency. Our new Grooved Disc Skimmer was able to recover 4,670 gpm with 89.5% efficiency, more than 3 times the industry's previous best oil recovery rate tested in controlled conditions. THANK YOU to Wendy Schmidt, Peter Diamandis, the X PRIZE Foundation, the staff at the Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup X CHALLENGE and the staff at Ohmsett. We also want to thank everyone that has sent us congratulations. We are lucky to have such loyal friends, customers and business partners. This victory belongs to everyone at Elastec/American Marine, from our facilities in Carmi, Illinois, Fairfield, Illinois, Cocoa, Florida and our network of dealers around the world.

The Carmi Times has a story about our inclusion in the Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup X CHALLENGE.
Elastec/American Marine is proud to announce their acceptance in the 2011 Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup X CHALLENGE. Internationally, only 10 teams were accepted after presenting their ideas for a device that can pick up 2,500 gallons of oil per minute from the surface of the water. After the 2010 Deepwater Horizon incident in the Gulf of Mexico, it became apparent that technology in the area of skimming oil from water was lacking when used on such a huge scale.
The Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup X CHALLENGE is a $1.4 Million competition designed to inspire a new generation of innovative solutions that will speed the pace of cleaning up seawater surface oil resulting from spillage from ocean platforms, tankers, and other sources. This one year competition will culminate in the fall of 2011, with competitive demonstrations taking place at OHMSETT, the National Oil Spill Response Research & Renewable Energy Test Facility. A $1.4 Million Prize will be awarded to the teams that demonstrate the ability to recover oil on the sea surface at the highest Oil Recovery Rate (ORR) of over 2,500 GPM with an Oil Recovery Efficiency (ORE) of more than 70%.
During the 2011 International Oil Spill Conference in Portland, Oregon, we were able to show a demonstration of our new Grooved Disc technology. This domestic & internationally patented design is already showing capability of having some of the highest recovery rates of any skimmer on the market. Conference attendees were consistantly impressed with the efficiency and recovery speed of this new skimmer technology.
